About the Client (GESB) is the largest Western Australian based superannuation fund managing over AUD$6 billion in its investment portfolio.
A government entity until early 2008, GESB manages the superannuation for current and former employees in the WA public sector and their partners. GESB’s core focus is on providing competitive superannuation and retirement products and sound investment returns to its 260,000 members.
Project Overview GESB were seeking the assistance of an external consultant to prepare a three year Information Management (IM) Strategy and Plan.
Client Requirements GESB required a consultative process to deliver an IM strategy that reflected the organisation’s current position and accounted for work that had already been undertaken to define business priorities.
Our Solution Change Corporation worked in GESB for over six months to develop a strategy that included:
- Review of strategic and tactical business plans;
- Translation of business strategy into an impact assessment for IM;
- Assessment of the current IT and information systems environment;
- Consideration of developments and trends within IM generally in relation to GESB;
- Current and future application of IM within the Superannuation and broader Wealth Management industry in relation to GESB;
- Alignment of IM to business strategy;
- Assessment information, business systems and technology architectures;
- Governance including risk management and controls, policies and procedures, compliance with industry standards and management reporting;
- Organisational structure, resource requirements, skill requirements, sourcing strategy and contract management framework; and
- Recommendations including implementation timelines and estimated costs.
Business Benefits Change Corporation worked with GESB to develop a comprehensive strategy that outlined a clear pathway for the organisation.
The strategy review delivered a number of business benefits:
- Assessing current sourcing practice;
- Development of a sourcing strategy;
- Assessment of key drivers behind changes to sourcing practice;
- Definition of future state of sourcing practice using Change Corporation methodology to define business and systems models;
- GAP analysis of sourcing practices; and
- Development and implementation of plan for final sourcing strategy.
